1-13

Peter: Alright, so this is Psalms 79... [clears throat] "O God, the nations have come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps. The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth." [coughs] Uh, what the heck does that mean?

Lois: [sighs] I think it means that foreign nations have invaded the land of Israel and destroyed its holy temple, Peter.

Brian: Yeah, it's not exactly a good time for the people of Israel. They're feeling pretty powerless, so they're crying out to God for help.

Stewie: [imitating a movie trailer] In a world of despair and hopelessness, one man stands alone! Will he conquer the evil empire and save the day? [normal voice] ...Or will the people of Israel remain in the hands of their oppressors?

Meg: [sarcastically] Wow, Stewie, that was really deep.

Peter: Oh, I got it! This is like that one movie with Brad Pitt, where he plays an ancient warrior and saves Jerusalem from the evil Romans!

Lois: [sighs] That's not what this is about, Peter. Anyways, the psalmist is asking God to avenge the death of his people and to restore their temple. He's asking for God's justice to be fulfilled.

Brian: That's right. He's asking God to show mercy and to bring punishment to those who have done wrong. He's asking for God to restore the people of Israel and to bring them back to their homeland.
