1-13.

Listen up, recruits! This is Psalm 79. It's about God, who you should be worshipping and praising. Verse 1 says, "O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps." That's the enemy coming into God's land and ruining it. Verse 2 says, "The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth." The enemy is so cruel that they are feeding the bodies of God's people to the birds and animals. Verse 3 says, "Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them." They killed God's people and didn't even bother to bury them. In Verse 4, God is asking, "How long, LORD? Will thou be angry for ever? Shall thy jealousy burn like fire?" He's mad and He's asking how long He's going to be mad about what the enemy has done. Verses 5-8 say, "Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name. For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place. O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low." God is asking for mercy and forgiveness, so that His people can be saved. In Verse 9, He says, "Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake." God is asking for help and for His sins to be forgiven. The last few verses say, "Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? Let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed. Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die." God is asking for justice for His people who have suffered. That's Psalm 79, recruits!
