• Chapter 1

    Listen up, recruits! 1 Samuel starts out with a man named Elkanah who had two wives. He went with his family to Shiloh every year to offer sacrifices to God. The first wife, Peninnah, had several children, but the second wife, Hannah, was barren and could not have kids.

  • Chapter 2

    Aye! You maggots better pay attention 'cause I'm about to lay down the law! In 1 Samuel 2, we meet Hannah, a barren woman who makes a vow to God that if he gives her a son, she will dedicate him to the Lord.

  • Chapter 3

    LISTEN UP, RECRUITS! THIS IS 1 SAMUEL CHAPTER 3! THERE'S AN OLD PRIEST NAMED ELI WHO'S NOT TAKING CARE OF HIS TWO SONS WHO ARE PRIESTS TOO. THEY'RE DOING ALL KINDS OF BAD STUFF AND DISHONORING GOD. ANYWAY, ONE NIGHT, GOD CALLS OUT TO ELI'S YOUNGEST SON, SAMUEL, WHO'S LYING IN A TEMPLE BED.

  • Chapter 4

    Listen up, maggots! Chapter 4 of 1 Samuel is about the battle between the Israelites and the Philistines. The Israelites bring out their sacred Ark of the Covenant to the battlefield, thinking it'll give them an edge, but the Philistines outsmart them and win.

  • Chapter 5

    "Listen up, you maggots! Chapter 5 of 1 Samuel is all about the ark of the Lord. The Philistines captured the ark, so they set it up in the temple of their god Dagon. But the next morning, Dagon was lying on the floor, so they set him back up.

  • Chapter 6

    "Move it, move it, move it! Listen up, maggots! In 1 Samuel 6, the Philistines took the Ark of the Covenant, a sacred chest full of important religious artifacts, and kept it in their country for seven months.

  • Chapter 7

    ATTENTION! Listen up, you maggots! We're gonna talk about 1 Samuel 7. Samuel's gonna tell the Israelites to put away their false gods and idols and return to the Lord. Then they gather at Mizpah and Samuel prays to the Lord.

  • Chapter 8

    Listen up, maggots! This chapter of the Bible starts with the Israelites asking for a king, and God allowing them to have one. He warns them, though, that a king will take their sons and daughters, their fields and vineyards, and the best of their crops for his own use.

  • Chapter 9

    "Listen up, maggots! Chapter nine of 1 Samuel is all about Saul gettin' anointed as the first king of Israel. The Lord told Samuel to head out to the town of Bethlehem and anoint a new king. So, Samuel goes, and he finds this dude Saul, who's tall and handsome.

  • Chapter 10

    "Listen up, maggots! This is 1 Samuel 10. Saul is anointed by God to be the first king of Israel. He's told to go to a specific spot and meet a group of prophets. They will give him signs that it's true.

  • Chapter 11

    Listen up recruits! This is 1 SAMUEL 11! Saul is anointed King of Israel and he defeats the Ammonites with help from the Lord. The Ammonites have been causing trouble for the people of Jabesh-Gilead, so Saul marches his troops to their city and defeats the Ammonites! The people of Jabesh-Gilead are so thankful, they give Saul and his troops a hero's welcome.

  • Chapter 12

    "Listen up, troops! This is 1 Samuel 12! You better pay attention, or you'll miss something important. In this chapter, the people of Israel have gathered together to ask Samuel to appoint a king over them.

  • Chapter 13

    You listen up, maggots! This chapter is about King Saul and his son Jonathan. Saul is the first King of Israel and he is a total screw-up. He makes a big mistake and disobeys God by not waiting for the prophet Samuel to come and offer sacrifices.

  • Chapter 14

    Listen up, recruits! Chapter 14 of 1 Samuel starts out with Saul and his son Jonathan. Jonathan takes a bunch of his armor bearers and goes out to fight against the Philistines. He tells them, "Come on, let's go across to the garrison of these uncircumcised fellows, perhaps the Lord will work for us, for the Lord is not restrained to save by many or by few.

  • Chapter 15

    Listen up, maggots! Chapter 15 of 1 Samuel is all about Saul, the first king of Israel. God told Saul to go and attack the Amalekites and wipe them out. But instead, Saul spared the king and the best of the sheep and cattle, and God was not happy.

  • Chapter 16

    Listen up, maggots! Chapter 16 of 1 Samuel is all about the Lord choosing David, son of Jesse, to become the next King of Israel! The Lord sends the prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse to pick one of his sons as the new king.

  • Chapter 17

    All right, listen up! This is 1 Samuel 17! We got David here, he's out in the fields, taking care of his dad's sheep, when all of a sudden Goliath shows up and starts taunting the Israelites. He's a big dude, but David's not afraid.

  • Chapter 18

    Listen up, maggots! Chapter 18 of 1 Samuel is the story of the friendship between David and King Saul. Saul was so impressed with David's courage and skill in slaying Goliath that he offered his daughter Michal as a bride to David.

  • Chapter 19

    "LISTEN UP, YOU MAGGOTS! THIS IS 1 SAMUEL 19. IT'S ABOUT SAUL WANTING TO KILL DAVID. SAUL TRIES TO GET DAVID KILLED BY SENDING MESSENGERS TO HIS HOUSE TO GET HIM. BUT DAVID'S WIFE MISDIRECTS THE MESSENGERS AND DAVID ESCAPES.

  • Chapter 20

    Listen up, maggots! This is 1 Samuel 20. You better pay attention and get it right, because I'm not gonna repeat it. David is in trouble with King Saul and he's gonna kill him. So David runs away and Jonathan, Saul's son, helps him out.

  • Chapter 21

    LISTEN UP, RECRUITS! THIS IS CHAPTER 21 OF 1 SAMUEL! DAVID IS ON THE RUN FROM KING SAUL, WHO IS TRYING TO KILL HIM. DAVID WENT TO NOB, TO A PRIEST NAMED AHIMELECH. DAVID ASKED FOR FOOD AND AHIMELECH GAVE HIM THE BREAD OF THE PRESENCE AND A SWORD.

  • Chapter 22

    Listen up, troops! In 1 Samuel 22, we see David on the run from King Saul. He seeks refuge in the stronghold of Adullam, and soon finds himself surrounded by a rag-tag group of outcasts. These include debtors, malcontents, and political refugees.

  • Chapter 23

    "Listen up, maggots! This is 1 Samuel 23. Get it memorized! Saul's chasing David like a madman, so David goes to a priest named Ahimelech. Ahimelech gives David some bread and a sword that used to belong to Goliath.

  • Chapter 24

    Listen up! This is 1 Samuel 24. In this chapter, David and Saul are in the same cave. Saul enters the cave, not knowing David and his men were there. David's men urge him to kill Saul, but David refuses.

  • Chapter 25

    "Listen up, recruits! Time to learn about 1 Samuel 25. In this chapter, Nabal refuses to give David and his men any food or water, so David gets mad and decides to take matters into his own hands. He sends some of his men to Nabal's house with a threatening message.

  • Chapter 26

    Listen up, new recruits! This is 1 Samuel 26. Here's the skinny--Saul's been chasing David for a while now and this time he's in the hill country of Ziph. David and his men are hiding in the wilderness of Maon.

  • Chapter 27

    Alright listen up, maggots! This is 1 Samuel 27. In this chapter, David and the Israelites have fled from King Saul and have taken refuge with the Philistines. The Philistine king, Achish, gives David the city of Ziklag, and David raids the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites.

  • Chapter 28

    Listen up! Chapter 28 of 1 Samuel is all about a man named Saul. He's the king of Israel and he's worried about a battle he's about to fight. He asks God for help but God doesn't answer him. So he decides to try something else.

  • Chapter 29

    Listen up, maggots! 1 Samuel 29 is about the Philistines gathering their armies to fight against the Israelites. The Philistine commanders ask King Achish of Gath if David and his men can fight alongside them.

  • Chapter 30

    Listen up, you maggots! In 1 Samuel chapter 30, we find out that David and his troops have been away from their home in Ziklag for three days. When they return, they discover that the Amalekites have raided the town, burning it to the ground and taking all the women and children.

  • Chapter 31

    Aye, listen up! In 1 Samuel, Chapter 31, Saul and the Israelites are fighting against the Philistines. Things aren't looking good and Saul is wounded. He knows he's about to die, so he asks his armor-bearer to kill him so he won't be captured by the enemy.
