Peter: Alright folks, let's get crackin' on Psalms 118. So, it starts off with the psalmist singing out praises to God and saying that God is his strength and shield. He then says that the Lord's mercies never come to an end, and that they are new every morning.

Lois: In other words, God is always there to help us no matter what!

Stewie: So, it's sort of like that old saying, "God helps those who help themselves", right?

Peter: Uh, sort of. Anyway, the psalmist then says that the Lord is good and His mercy is everlasting. He has made his people strong and given them a strong and firm foundation.

Brian: So, the idea here is that God is the source of strength and stability for his people?

Peter: Yeah, pretty much. He then goes on to say that he will not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. He then says that the Lord has chastened him severely, but has not given him over to death.

Lois: So, even when God disciplines us, He's still looking out for us.

Stewie: Yeah, like when parents take away the Xbox for bad grades - it's tough love!
