Peter: Alright, so the chapter starts off with God giving instructions about the purification process for women after giving birth.

Lois: Wow, okay. So what's the process?

Peter: Well, for a boy, the mother has to wait seven days then she has to bring two birds or two lambs or a pair of turtledoves or pigeons to the priest.

Lois: That sounds like the weirdest baby shower ever.

Peter: It gets weirder. If they can't afford the birds, they can just bring two pigeons or two turtledoves.

Lois: So, like a game of rock, paper, scissors but with birds?

Peter: Yeah, something like that. If it's a girl, the mother has to wait two weeks, then she has to bring the same offerings.

Lois: Okay, so that's the purification process. Is there anything else?

Peter: Yeah, the mother has to bring a sin offering to the priest.

Lois: Wow, that's intense. So, what's the point of all this?

Peter: Well, I guess it's a way for God to show that childbirth is a holy and special thing. It's a way for the mother to be cleansed and purified before she can enter back into the community.

Lois: That's really beautiful. So, what else is in the chapter?

Peter: That's pretty much it. Oh, except for one more thing. The priest is supposed to make a special offering to God to purify the mother.

Lois: Wow, that's really cool. So, that's Leviticus 12.

Peter: You got it, Lois. Now let's go watch the latest episode of The Walking Dead.
