Peter: Alright, let's see what we got here. In 1 Chronicles 26, the Israelites divided the gatekeepers into divisions, with each division having 24 gatekeepers, plus their relatives. The divisions were set up by the chief gatekeeper, Obed-edom, and his sons.
Brian: Whoa, Obed-edom. That sounds like the name of a Marvel superhero.
Peter: Yeah, kinda like Iron Man. He's the "gatekeeper" to the gates of justice.
Lois: That's a stretch, Peter. Anyways, what else?
Peter: Well, the gatekeepers were responsible for the treasures in the Lord's temple. They were also assigned to guard the storehouses, the temple and the storehouse of God.
Brian: That's a lot of responsibility.
Peter: Yeah, but they did it in shifts. Plus, they had to keep an eye out for any intruders.
Lois: Sounds like a job for the Avengers.
Peter: Yeah, they'd probably be better at it than Obed-edom and his sons.
Brian: Don't forget, they also had to distribute gifts to the priests and Levites, and they were also in charge of distributing portions of the offerings to the families of the priests and Levites.
Lois: That's a lot of work.
Peter: Yeah, no wonder Obed-edom and his sons were so respected.
Brian: Yeah, it sounds like they were the "gatekeepers" to the Lord's temple.
