C'mon, man! Here's the deal: Jeremiah 41 tells us that Ishmael was with ten men and had gone to Gedaliah, and they were eating bread together in Mizpah. Then they stood up and slew Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, who was appointed Governor of Judah by the king of Babylon. My father used to say that was an awful, awful thing to do. I'm not joking. It was wicked. So Ishmael took eight of Gedaliah's men, and they went to the Ammonites. See here, Jack, Johanan went after him to take vengeance for the murder of Gedaliah. Literally, Ishmael took captives from Mizpah and prepared to leave for Egypt. What was that? Johanan and the captains of the army came to Mizpah and took the captives from Ishmael and brought them back to the land of Judah. Or uh, you know, no malarkey! Johanan was afraid that Ishmael would hand them over to the king of Ammon. Not gonna happen. I tell you what, Johanan stayed in the country of Benjamin. Excuse me, Ishmael was not taken, and he was free to go to wherever he wanted.
