Batman: Robin, we've come to Jeremiah 40. The Lord has brought Jeremiah back to Judah from captivity.

Robin: Right you are, Batman! It seems that Gedaliah, the man appointed by Babylon, is ruling over the people of Judah.

Joker: Hey, what's going on here? The last I heard, the Babylonians had captured Jerusalem!

Batman: That's right, Joker. They took many of the people of Judah into captivity and appointed Gedaliah to be the governor of those who remained.

Catwoman: How did Jeremiah get back to Judah?

Robin: Well, Catwoman, the Lord allowed Jeremiah to be released from captivity and he returned to Judah to be with Gedaliah.

Riddler: Hmm, interesting. So what happened next?

Batman: Well, Riddler, Gedaliah was assassinated by Ishmael, a member of the royal family. This caused all the people who had stayed in Judah to flee to Egypt in fear of the Babylonians. Jeremiah then followed them to Egypt, where the chapter ends.
