Listen up, maggots! This is Jeremiah 40. Word has it that Babylon is done with Jerusalem and has pulled back. So, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, has released Jeremiah. He's going to go to Gedaliah at Mizpah. Now, Gedaliah is king, but he ain't Babylonian; he's one of the locals. He's got lots of Jews with him, and he's going to try to get Judah back on its feet. He's also got some Ammonites who are going to help out, so don't be too hard on them. Anyway, the word is out and everyone's coming to Gedaliah, so he's got a bit of a community going. But, watch out. There're some bad apples in the crowd and Gedaliah's gonna need help to watch out for them. Also, Jeremiah's got some advice for Gedaliah: obey the king of Babylon, and you'll be alright.
