Jeremiah 37: Jeremiah is thrown into a dungeon by King Zedekiah for prophesying about Judah's downfall. Jeremiah is released but then is sent back to the court of the king when the Babylonians are about to besiege Jerusalem. King Zedekiah releases Jeremiah and tells him to pray for the people of Judah. Jeremiah does so, asking God to save them from the Babylonians. God answers Jeremiah's prayer and the Babylonians withdraw, giving the people of Judah a reprieve. However, when they feel secure, they turn away from God and do not keep his commands. As a result, the Babylonians return and lay siege to Jerusalem, leading to its fall and the exile of many of its people.
