Joe: Alright, buddy, what’s up with Jeremiah 37?
Bible Expert: Well, it’s about a time of famine in the land of Judah. The people are desperate, so King Zedekiah sends for the prophet Jeremiah to ask for God’s help.
Joe: Wait, wait, wait. King Zedekiah? I think I know that name. Let me Google it…Yup, I was right. He was the last king of Judah before the Babylonian captivity. Wow, so this is a pretty important chapter!
Bible Expert: Yeah, and things don't go well for Zedekiah. God tells Jeremiah to tell him that he won't be helped and that he will be taken captive. Meanwhile, Jeremiah himself is thrown into prison for prophesying that Jerusalem will be destroyed.
Joe: Whoa, that’s some heavy stuff. So, what else happens?
Bible Expert: Well, Zedekiah eventually lets Jeremiah go, but only after the Babylonians have laid siege to Jerusalem. The Babylonians eventually capture the city, and the chapter ends with Jeremiah being taken to Egypt by some of the remaining Jews.
Joe: That’s wild. What a story! I think I need a break after this one…
