Joe: Alright, so we got Jeremiah 17 here, what’s going on in this chapter?

Bible Expert: Well, Jeremiah 17 starts off by talking about how Judah’s sin is engraved on the “tables of their hearts” and is written on the horns of their altars. Then the Lord says that He will judge them for their sin.

Joe: Dang, sounds serious.

Bible Expert: It is. The Lord then goes on to describe a blessing and a curse. The blessing is for those who trust in the Lord and fear Him, and the curse is for those who do not trust in Him and do not obey Him.

Joe: Alright, so what else?

Bible Expert: The Lord then goes on to say that He will bring punishment on those that are unfaithful and have forsaken Him, and He will bring prosperity to those who trust in Him. He then compares the people of Judah to a tree planted by streams of water, which will bring forth its fruit in its season and whose leaves will never wither.

Joe: Wow, that’s pretty cool!

Bible Expert: It is. Then the Lord says that the heart of the people of Judah is deceitful and desperately wicked. And He says that He will bring punishment on those who forget Him.

Joe: Man, so like, He’s not playing around!

Bible Expert: Nope. He then goes on to say that if the people of Judah will turn back to Him, He will restore them and bring them back to the land He gave them.

Joe: Wow, so there’s still hope for them?

Bible Expert: Yes, there is. But He also says that if they do not turn back to Him, He will punish them for their sins.

Joe: Alright, so that’s Jeremiah 17. Anything else you want to say about it?

Bible Expert: Well, I think this chapter is a great reminder of the importance of trusting in the Lord and obeying His Word, no matter what the circumstances may be. The Lord is always ready to forgive and restore us if we turn back to Him.
