Joe: Alright, so what do we have here?

Bible Expert: Well, in Jeremiah 35, God commanded Jeremiah to go to the house of the Rechabites and offer them wine.

Joe: Hold up, who are the Rechabites?

Jamie: (Googling) According to the Bible, the Rechabites were a nomadic people who were descendants of Rechab, a man who had commanded his descendants to remain nomadic and not to drink wine.

Bible Expert: That's right. So God wanted Jeremiah to offer them wine to test their commitment to their ancestor's commandment. And they refused to drink it.

Joe: Wow, so they were really devoted to their ancestor's commandment.

Bible Expert: Yes, absolutely. And God commended them for it and said that their faithfulness was a lesson to all of Israel. He said that if the Rechabites could be so devoted to the will of their ancestor, then why couldn't the Israelites be devoted to the will of their God.

Joe: That's really powerful. So what happens after that?

Bible Expert: Well, God promised that the Rechabites would always have a place in Israel, and that their descendants would never lack a man to stand before Him.

Joe: Wow, so it's like a reward for their faithfulness.

Bible Expert: Exactly. And then God promised to bring the Israelites back to their land and restore them. And He promised that He would never forget them.

Joe: That's awesome. So I guess that's the end of Jeremiah 35 then?

Bible Expert: Pretty much, yes.
