Joe: Alright, so this is Jeremiah 36. What's it all about?

Bible Expert: Well, it's about King Jehoiakim of Judah and how he burned the scroll that Jeremiah wrote containing the words of God.

Joe: What?! That doesn't sound good!

Bible Expert: No, it's not. God then commanded Jeremiah to write down everything again and to read it out loud to the people in the court of the Lord's house.

Joe: But why would the king burn it?

Bible Expert: Well, Jehoiakim was a wicked king who didn't believe in the Lord. He threw the scroll in the fire and tried to stop Jeremiah from speaking the truth.

Joe: Wow! That's pretty intense.

Bible Expert: Yes, it is. But God's word was not destroyed. Jeremiah obeyed God's command and wrote down everything again and read it out loud to the people.

Joe: That's a pretty powerful story. Anything else significant happen in this chapter?

Bible Expert: Yes, Baruch, Jeremiah's scribe, read the scroll to the people and when it was finished, the people in the court of the Lord's house wept.

Joe: Wow, so God's word really touched them.

Bible Expert: Yes, it did. It was a powerful reminder of God's truth and it inspired them to repent and turn back to God.
