Joe: Alright, welcome to the show Bible Expert! We're gonna get into the nitty gritty of the Bible. Let's start with Jeremiah 38. What can you tell me about this chapter?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, the chapter starts off with a pretty wild story. King Zedekiah has imprisoned Jeremiah and has thrown him in a muddy cistern. A few of the king's men rescue him from the cistern and take him to King Zedekiah, who then asks Jeremiah what God has told him.

Joe: Wow, that's intense! Did God tell him anything?

Bible Expert: Yes, Joe. God told Jeremiah to tell the king that if he would surrender to the Babylonians he and his people would be spared. Zedekiah didn't believe Jeremiah and put him back in the prison.

Joe: That's crazy! I guess the king didn't take God's advice then?

Bible Expert: Not exactly, Joe. The king's advisors then come to him and tell him to listen to Jeremiah and surrender. Zedekiah eventually decides to listen and Jeremiah is released from prison.

Joe: Wow, alright. So what happens next?

Bible Expert: Well, God then sends a message to King Zedekiah saying that if he doesn't surrender then the city of Jerusalem will be destroyed. Zedekiah still doesn't believe Jeremiah and continues to resist.

Joe: Man, that's a tough one. So what happens in the end?

Bible Expert: In the end, the Babylonians capture the city and King Zedekiah is exiled. The Babylonians then burn down the city of Jerusalem and take the people of Judah into captivity.

Joe: Wow, that's some heavy stuff. Alright, well thanks for joining us, Bible Expert! We really appreciate it.
