Batman: There's trouble in the land of Israel, Robin. The people are slow to obey God's commandments, and now the Lord has given a special law to the Israelites.
Robin: What is it, Batman?
Batman: If a man makes a vow to the Lord, he must keep it, and if a woman makes a vow, her father or husband can cancel it if he chooses.
Joker: Ha ha ha! So much for women's rights!
Robin: That's not very nice, Joker! What else does God say?
Batman: If a woman makes a vow while she is still under her father's authority, her father can cancel it. But if a woman has been married and has made a vow, only her husband can cancel it.
Catwoman: Interesting. So a woman can make a vow, but it can be overruled by her husband or father.
Batman: That's right. But if her father or husband does nothing, then the vow stands.
Riddler: Riddle me this: What happens if a woman makes a vow without her father or husband's knowledge?
Batman: In that case, the vow stands.
