Folks! No malarkey! Here's the deal: 1 Samuel 26 starts off with a reminder that Saul had already been trying to kill David for a while now. See here, Jack, Saul is camped out near Ziph and David and Abishai, one of his men, sneak up on Saul and his men in the middle of the night. Now, Abishai urges David to kill Saul, but David can't bring himself to do it. So, he takes Saul's spear and water jug instead. My father used to say: "Actions speak louder than words." Or uh, you know, sometimes they don't. Anyway, when Saul wakes up and realizes what happened, he admits that David has been merciful to him. But, he still wants to kill David so he has to keep running. Excuse me, but I'm not joking: David could have killed Saul then and there, but instead he chose mercy. That's a good example for us all. Literally. What was that? Ah, the moral of the story: mercy is always the right choice. I tell you what: no matter what kind of trouble you're in, no matter who's against you, mercy will always be the right choice. C'mon, man! Not gonna happen.
