So in 1 Samuel 7, the Israelites have been having a rough time of it lately, what with the Philistines being all over them and all. So they get together and decide to get rid of all the idols they've been worshipping - which, let's face it, is probably a good idea - and turn to God. And then they make a big sacrifice and everyone is like, 'Yay! We're saved!' But then God sends a thunder and lightning storm and the Philistines are like, 'Uh oh, what's going on here?' and they all run away, never to be a problem for the Israelites again. Moral of the story: sometimes God helps you out if you just make a few sacrifices.
