• Chapter 1

    Alright, so 1 Kings 1 starts off with an old King David getting old and weak, so his servants try to find a young buck to be the next king of Israel. They settle on one of his sons, Adonijah, and he starts throwing himself a big party to celebrate.

  • Chapter 2

    So folks, we're in 1 Kings 2 now and things are heating up. King David is on his deathbed and he's giving his son Solomon some pretty heavy advice: obey God, carry out justice, and be strong. Apparently, he's been planning ahead because he's already set up some arrangements with some of his enemies, and he's making sure Solomon knows all about it.

    Well, folks, it's time for another chapter of the good book. This time, we're in 1 Kings 3, and it's about King Solomon. Now, Solomon wasn't just any king, he was the wisest king the world had ever seen! But, he had a problem: he was so wise he didn't know what to do with it! So God appeared to him in a dream, and offered him anything he wanted.

  • Chapter 4

    So, 1 Kings 4. It's a real rollercoaster. We got a new king on the throne, Solomon, and he's really flexin' his power. He's gonna do some reorganizing and he starts by splitting the country into twelve districts.

  • Chapter 5

    So, we're continuing our tour through the Bible, and this chapter is from 1 Kings. Now, you may be wondering what's so important about the first King of Israel, and the answer is... not a lot, unfortunately.

  • Chapter 6

    Well folks, it's been another wild chapter in the Bible. In 1 Kings 6, King Solomon is building the temple. And boy, it's taking a while. He's been working on it for seven years, and it's still not done! I guess it's true what they say - when you build something for the Lord, you take your time.

    Well, folks, the Bible is really heating up this week with the book of 1 Kings. Chapter 7 is all about King Solomon's palace, and it's really a doozy. First, we have the Hall of Pillars - it's huge, but it doesn't have a roof, so if it rains, everyone's gonna get wet.

    Hey, it's Norm MacDonald here at Weekend Update. Well, it looks like 1 Kings 8 is a real snoozefest. King Solomon is still in the building, and he's built the Temple of God. He brings the Ark of the Covenant into the Temple and then makes a speech about how great it all is.

    Alright, folks, in 1 Kings 9 we've got King Solomon getting the Lord's blessing and a whole lot of rules to follow. He's got to show his loyalty to God and if he does, God will give him a long and prosperous reign.

    All right, folks, it's time for the weekly Bible summary! This week we're taking a look at 1 Kings 10. If you're not familiar, King Solomon was the wisest man ever-- so wise, he even made a deal with the Queen of Sheba.

  • Chapter 11

    So, let's talk about 1 Kings 11, which is all about the consequences of King Solomon's bad decision making. He had 700 wives and 300 concubines, and the Lord was not pleased. So, God decided to split the kingdom in two, and Solomon's son, Rehoboam, would take over.

    Well folks, it's time to take a look at 1 Kings 12. It's a real tear jerker. You know, it's a story of a man who has to make a tough decision: follow his father or follow his heart. And what does he do? He makes the wrong choice, of course.

    Well, folks, it's been a real wild ride in 1 Kings 13. We've got a prophet of God disobeying God, a "man of God" disobeyed, a dead donkey, and a big ol' bear. It's like a Saturday morning cartoon, but with more talking and less singing.

  • Chapter 14

    "Hey, folks, on this week's Bible report, we've got some real doozies. In 1 Kings 14, we learn about Jeroboam, who was the king of Israel, and a real jerk. He made some golden calves and set them up as gods, and got the people to worship them.

  • Chapter 15

    Well, folks, it's time for Old Testament Update. This week we've got 1 Kings 15. In this chapter, we meet King Abijam of Judah, who's described as walking "not wholly" in the Lord's ways. Translation: he's a bit of a sinner.

  • Chapter 16

    Well, well, well, what have we here? In 1 Kings 16, we meet a character called Baasha. He's the king of Israel and he's pretty bad news. He does away with his predecessor and then sets about a campaign of evil and destruction.

  • Chapter 17

    Hey there, this is Norm MacDonald here with the summary of 1 Kings 17. So, Elijah the prophet comes to a widow in Zarephath and asks for a little something to eat, and the widow says she only has enough for herself and her son.

  • Chapter 18

    Well, folks, it's been a wild few chapters in 1 Kings. This week, we find out what happened when Elijah the prophet challenged the priests of Baal in a showdown of Biblical proportions. Now, I don't want to spoil the ending for you, but let's just say it's a scorcher.

  • Chapter 19

    Well well well, what have we here? In 1 Kings 19, we have a classic story of a man in crisis. Elijah, the prophet of God, has just won a huge victory over the prophets of the false god Baal. But when Queen Jezebel hears about it, she's so mad she threatens to kill him! So Elijah runs away and ends up in the wilderness, feeling sorry for himself.

  • Chapter 20

    Well, folks, it's been a wild ride in 1 Kings 20! We've got a power struggle between the king of Israel and the king of Aram, and the king of Aram's got a whole bunch of chariots and horses. But the king of Israel's got God on his side, and his army manages to beat the Arameans! It's a massive victory, and the king of Israel gets all kinds of booty from the Arameans.

  • Chapter 21

    Ah, 1 Kings 21! A real classic! This chapter has it all! Ahab, the king of Israel, wants a vineyard owned by a guy named Naboth. But Naboth says "no way, Jose!" So Ahab gets his wife Jezebel to just straight-up murder Naboth so they can have the vineyard.

  • Chapter 22

    Well, folks, buckle up for 1 Kings 22. It's a wild ride for sure. In this chapter, we've got Ahab, King of Israel, teaming up with Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, to try and take back a city from the Syrians.
