1. Now king David was old {and} stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat. {stricken...: Heb. entered into days} / 2. Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat. →

1. Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, / 2. I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man; / 3. And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself: {prosper: or, do wisely} →

1. And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. →

He built also the house of the forest of Lebanon; the length thereof {was} an hundred cubits, and the breadth thereof fifty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits, upon four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams upon the pillars. →

1. Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which {is} Zion. →

1. And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to do, / 2. That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon. →

1. And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions. / 2. And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. →

1. But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, {and} Hittites; {together...: or, beside} / 2. Of the nations {concerning} which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: {for} surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love. →

1. And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king. / 2. And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard {of it}, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;) →

1. And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Bethel: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense. {burn: or, offer} / 2. And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee. →

1. At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick. / 2. And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh: behold, there {is} Ahijah the prophet, which told me that {I should be} king over this people. →

1. Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah. / 2. Three years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name {was} Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. {Maachah. →

1. And it came to pass {after} many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth. / 2. And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. →

1. And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. / 2. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do {to me}, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time. →

1. And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and {there were} thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it. / 2. →

1. And it came to pass after these things, {that} Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which {was} in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. / 2. And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it {is} near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; {or}, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money. →

1. And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel. / 2. And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. / 3.
