    1. Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag; / 2. It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and {so} it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.

    1. And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him. / 2. And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was {so}, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city {art} thou? And he said, Thy servant {is} of one of the tribes of Israel.

    1. And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. / 2. For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which {was} with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.
