C'mon, man! Listen, Jack, here's the deal. In Deuteronomy 27, the Lord tells Moses and the people of Israel to literally write down his commands and keep them on stones. Then, they have to stand on Mount Ebal and Gerizim and read out the commands to the people. My father used to say that the Israelites were to make two piles of stones and then put an altar in the middle. I'm not joking, see here, Jack - they're to build the altar out of stones that haven't been cut or shaped by an iron tool. What was that? That's right, folks - no malarkey!

Then, the Levites have to stand on the mount and read out the curses. They're to read out all the commands that the Lord has given to Moses and the people. They have to read them out loud so that everyone can hear. Or uh, you know, so that the Lord can hear them. After that, the people of Israel have to say "Amen" and agree with the curses. Not gonna happen if they don't agree, I tell you what. Then, the people are to write down the curses on the stones, too - just like they did with the commands.

Excuse me, folks, but they don't forget the words of the Lord - literally. He's not gonna let them off the hook, because his words are life to those who keep them.
