So let's recap Acts 4. It all starts with Peter and John healing a crippled man outside the Temple. They attract a crowd, and Peter gives a speech about Jesus to them. The religious leaders in the crowd try to silence them, but Peter stands his ground. Then, the leaders throw them in jail. The next day, they're brought before the Sanhedrin and asked to explain why they healed the man. Peter boldly proclaims that it was through Jesus. The religious leaders can't do anything to them because the crowd is on their side. So, they let them go, but order them to stop preaching about Jesus. Peter and John ignore the order, and go right back to preaching. In the end, they're set free and continue to preach, despite the religious leaders' best efforts.
