So, in Joshua 24, we have the Israelites gathered at the plains of Shechem, and Joshua gives them a history lesson. He talks about how their ancestors served all sorts of gods, until God chose Abraham, then Isaac and Jacob, then led them into the Promised Land. But of course, Joshua then reminds them of all the battles they've won since then, and he's like, "Look, I know you've been loyal to God, so let's make a pact that we'll all keep being loyal." The people agree, and Joshua sets up a big stone as a reminder of the deal. So...yay, loyalty? I guess?
