Peter: Alright, here's Amos 5.

Lois: Why don't you just say what it's about, Peter?

Peter: (sighing) Alright, here goes. Amos 5 is all about how God hates the way the Israelites were living. He's mad at them for not following his laws and not caring about justice. He also warns them to stop worshipping false idols and to turn back to him.

Brian: Sounds like a pretty typical Bible chapter.

Peter: Yeah, but it also has some great pop culture references. Like, God tells the Israelites to “seek me and live”, which is a pretty obvious nod to the classic movie “Seek and Destroy”.

Lois: That's not really a pop culture reference, Peter.

Peter: Oh, yeah? Well then what about when God says, “Woe to you who long for the day of the Lord!” That's a reference to the long-running cartoon “The Day of the Lord”.

Brian: That's a pretty tenuous connection.

Peter: Hey, I'm just trying to make the Bible a bit more interesting.
