Folks, here's the deal: I'm talking about the chapter in 2 Samuel that tells the story of Abner and Ish-bosheth. My father used to say, "Abner was a man of valor and honor." Well, Abner had a conflict with Ish-bosheth, who was Saul's son, over the throne. Abner wanted to make Ish-bosheth king, but David, who was already king of Judah, wanted the whole kingdom of Israel. I'm not joking when I say Abner and Ish-bosheth had a long and winding conflict, with Ish-bosheth eventually being killed by two of his men. See here, Jack, David was then declared King of all Israel and Judah. Not gonna happen that Ish-bosheth could have won that fight, c'mon man! Anyway, David then showed mercy to Abner and gave him a proper burial. So, what was that? He honored Abner after all the trouble he caused. I tell you what, that's a real testament to David's character. Excuse me, but literally, this chapter teaches us a valuable lesson about mercy, even in the midst of conflict. No malarkey!
