Folks, here's the deal. In Judges 10, we read about Israel's cry for help after a series of missteps with the gods of other nations. The Lord heard their cries, and he called on Jair, a judge from Gilead, to lead them back to the righteous path. But then, my father used to say, "No good deed goes unpunished." So, after Jair died, the people of Israel went right back to their old ways. See here, Jack, they began worshiping the gods of the Philistines and the Ammonites. So the Lord got angry, and he sent down a series of plagues on them. I'm not joking, he sent down famine, pestilence, and even an invasion by the Ammonites. The people of Israel begged for mercy, and finally the Lord relented. He sent them a judge named Jephthah, a man who had been abandoned by his own family, and he led them to victory against the Ammonites. Then, after Jephthah died, the people of Israel fell back into their old ways once again. C'mon, man! It was like literally the same story all over again. So the Lord sent down another judge, Ibzan, to bring them back to the right path. But what was that? You know how the story ends. Or uh, you know, it doesn't. Not gonna happen. I tell you what, the cycle just kept repeating itself. Excuse me, but that's Judges 10.
