Folks, I'm telling you, it's been a long time since the Israelites crossed the Jordan River and set up camp in the Promised Land, and they've been working hard ever since. Now, here's the deal: it's time for the Lord to give them a sign of His favor. So, what do you know, He commands them to get ready, because they're about to have a special meal with Him. Now, this wasn't no regular meal, c'mon man. This was a meal of unleavened bread, roasted grain, and the very first fruit of the land. Then, the Lord made a promise: He said that He would never again drive out the Israelites from the land He was giving them. Excuse me, but I think that's something we can all be thankful for! That's not all, though. Then, the Lord commanded them to start the Passover feast. So, the Israelites celebrated the feast, and it was a great time for them. No malarkey. My father used to say, "You can't beat a good Passover feast!" I'm not joking. So, the Israelites were ready to start taking the Promised Land, but first, the Lord told them to circumcise all the males. That's right, folks, I'm talking about the circumcision of all the males in the whole camp. See here, Jack, that took some doing, but they eventually got it done. So, are you ready for this? As soon as they were circumcised, the Lord caused the shadow of the moon to go backwards. I tell you what, that's one way to get your attention! Or uh, you know, it could be a sign of the Lord's favor. Literally. Anyway, the Israelites named the place Gilgal, which means "rolling away." What was that? Rolling away of the Lord's judgment? Not gonna happen! We can all be thankful for that.
