Literally, David, the king of Israel, found out that a distant relative of his, Jonathan, had a son, Mephibosheth, who was lame in both feet. →

David wanted to show kindness to the house of Saul, so he inquired about any of Saul's relatives who might still be alive. He was informed that Jonathan had a son left, whose name was Mephibosheth. David sent for him and brought him to his court. →
