Batman: Robin, the book of Zechariah is full of mysterious visions and prophecies. In Chapter 11, the Lord commands us to open the door of the sheepfold and set the sheep free.

Robin: Holy sheep, Batman! What does that mean?

Batman: I believe it's a metaphor for freeing the people of Israel from their oppressors. But then, the Lord commands Zechariah to feed the sheep, but to also break their staff - a symbol of their covenant with Him.

Joker (interrupting): What kind of cruel joke is that, Batman?

Batman: It's not a joke, Joker. It's a metaphor for the destruction of the temple and the end of the covenant between the Lord and His people.

Catwoman (interrupting): What else does the Lord say?

Batman: He commands Zechariah to take two staffs. The first one he names "Beauty" and the second one he names "Bonds". He says that by breaking the staff of Beauty, the Lord will break the covenant between the Lord and His people.

Robin: But why, Batman?

Batman: Because the people of Israel had turned away from the Lord and were no longer obedient to His laws. The Lord was punishing them for their disobedience.
