Folks, here's the deal. Nehemiah 9 is about God's people taking an oath to follow his laws, and no malarkey! They were literally devoting themselves to God, and weren't gonna let anyone or anything get in their way. I'm not joking! My father used to say that when you make a covenant with God, you gotta stick to it. See here, Jack, the people of Israel had sinned against God repeatedly, but when they heard his laws, they were like, "C'mon, man!" They weren't gonna let that happen again.

So then, they all gathered together and read out loud from the book of law, and they wept and fasted and put on sackcloth and sprinkled ashes. And I tell you what, they all agreed to keep the commandments of the Lord, and to obey all the rules written in the book.

Then they all made a solemn covenant to follow the Lord and to keep his commands and laws. They were so devoted, they even agreed to destroy the idols and foreign gods that their ancestors had worshiped.

My father used to say that when you make a promise to God, you should stick to it no matter what, and that's exactly what the people of Israel did. They were determined to keep their promise, and they did it, even though it was tough. So that's Nehemiah 9, folks. Excuse me!
