Alex: So, what have you been up to lately?

Contestant: Well, I have been reading a lot about the Bible and in particular Judges 1.

Alex: *sighs* What does it say?

Contestant: Judges 1 tells the story of how the Israelites conquered the Promised Land of Canaan. They were successful in many areas, but there were still some cities that they were unable to take. God then instructed them to ask the local inhabitants if they wanted to make a covenant with them. If they agreed, the Israelites would be able to live in the city and enjoy its benefits. However, if they refused, the Israelites were to go to war with them and take the city.

Alex: *sighs again* Moving on, what other hobbies do you have?

Contestant: Well, I also read a lot about the Bible and in particular Judges 2.

Alex: *rolls his eyes* Go on then.

Contestant: Judges 2 tells the story of how the Israelites had to fight the Canaanites and other local inhabitants in order to fully control the Promised Land. Eventually, they were successful and were able to establish their own kingdom, but they also had to confront the consequences of their failure to fully obey God's commands. The book ends with a warning to the Israelites that they should not forget their faith and follow the same mistakes as their ancestors.
