Folks, the Lord spoke to Jonah a second time, and this time he was serious - no malarkey! He said, "Go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me." And so, Jonah went. He went to Nineveh, literally, and he announced to the people, "In forty days Nineveh will be overthrown!" And the people of Nineveh believed God. C'mon, man! They put on sackcloth and sprinkled ashes on their heads and cried out to God for mercy. Here's the deal: The king of Nineveh rose from his throne, took off his royal robes and put on sackcloth and sat in ashes. He then issued a decree that said: "Man and beast, small and large, must not eat or drink anything; they must wear sackcloth and cry out to God earnestly and turn from their evil ways and their violence. Who knows what will happen if we don't? I tell you what, this is serious - I'm not joking. So, see here, Jack, the people of Nineveh believed God, and they turned from their evil ways. And God had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened. He literally had a change of heart. My father used to say that God is merciful and kind, and he loves us all. Or uh, you know, we can count on him to be there when we need him. Not gonna happen that he'll ever let us down. That's what I believe, and that's the truth. Excuse me.
