Joe: Alright, Bible Expert, let's hear what happens in 2 Chronicles 10!

Bible Expert: Well, this chapter starts off with the people of Israel asking Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, to lighten the harshness of his father's rule. But Rehoboam is stubborn and refuses to listen to the people.

Joe: That's gonna cause problems.

Bible Expert: Indeed, it does. The people become angry and they revolt against Rehoboam, breaking away from the kingdom of Israel and forming their own kingdom, called Israel.

Joe: Wow! So, what happens next?

Bible Expert: Well, Rehoboam musters an army to fight against the rebels, but God intervenes and tells Rehoboam to leave them alone, as it is his will that the kingdom of Israel should be divided into two.

Joe: Interesting.

Bible Expert: So, Rehoboam does as he is told and the kingdom of Israel is divided into two. The northern kingdom is called Israel and the southern kingdom is called Judah.

Joe: Interesting. So, what happens after that?

Bible Expert: Well, the people of Israel and Judah live in peace for a while, but eventually, the people of Israel turn away from God and begin to worship idols. This angers God and he sends prophets to warn them to turn back to him, but they refuse to listen. So, God sends the Assyrian army to conquer the northern kingdom of Israel.

Joe: Wow. That sounds intense.

Bible Expert: It is indeed. The Assyrians conquer the northern kingdom, destroy it, and take its people into captivity. The southern kingdom of Judah, however, remains intact, but the people are warned to turn back to God or else they will suffer the same fate as their northern neighbors.

Joe: Well, that's pretty terrifying. Did the people of Judah listen?

Bible Expert: Yes, they did. The people of Judah turn back to God and are spared from destruction. The chapter ends with Rehoboam establishing himself as the king of Judah and the people of Judah worshipping God.
