Joe: Alright, so 2 Chronicles 23. What’s going on here?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, this chapter is about King Jehoiada and his efforts to restore the worship of God in the temple.

Joe: Wait, so he was trying to get people to believe in God again?

Bible Expert: Yes and no. The people already believed in God, but they had started to worship idols and false gods instead. Jehoiada wanted to get them back to worshiping only God.

Joe: Wow, that must have been a tall order.

Bible Expert: It sure was. He had to convince the high priest, the priests, and the Levites to start worshiping God again, and then he had to get the people to follow suit.

Joe: So how did he do it?

Bible Expert: Well, first he made a covenant with all of them, promising that they would follow God’s laws. Then he put the priests and Levites in charge of the temple and made sure that they followed the laws of God.

Joe: And then?

Bible Expert: Then he had the people come to the temple and renew their commitment to God. He had a ceremony where they all renewed their covenant with God and then he had them make sacrifices to show their commitment.

Joe: That’s pretty cool. So did it work?

Bible Expert: It sure did! The people were so inspired by what Jehoiada did that they followed his example and started worshiping God again.
