Joe: Alright, so we’re talking about 2 Chronicles 12! What’s going on in this chapter?

Bible Expert: Well, this chapter is about the reign of King Rehoboam of Judah. He had become king after his father, Solomon, died.

Joe: Awesome! What happened?

Bible Expert: One of the first things Rehoboam did was to make an alliance with Egypt. This alliance was broken when the Egyptians attacked Jerusalem and plundered the Temple and palace.

Joe: Oof, that’s not good.

Bible Expert: No, it wasn’t. The people of Judah were so angry that they revolted and Rehoboam had to flee to Jerusalem.

Joe: So what happened next?

Bible Expert: The prophet Shemaiah then came to Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah and told them that God would forgive them if they repented. So Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah repented and God forgave them.

Joe: Wow, that’s amazing. So what happened after that?

Bible Expert: Well, the people of Judah continued to live in peace and prosperity until the reign of King Asa. That’s when things started to go downhill.

Joe: Interesting. So what does this chapter teach us about God?

Bible Expert: Well, it teaches us that God is a God of mercy and forgiveness. Despite the fact that Rehoboam and the people of Judah had strayed from Him, He still forgave them and allowed them to live in peace and prosperity. It also teaches us that God is a God of justice and will punish those who disobey Him.
