Alex: "So, how about that weather, eh? Have you been enjoying the sunshine?"

Contestant: "Actually, Alex, I was thinking about Joshua 9 in the Bible. It's about how the people of Gibeon tricked Joshua and the Israelites into making a treaty with them, even though the Israelites had been commanded not to make treaties with anyone in the land."

Alex: [sighs] "Oh, really? Why don't you tell me something more interesting, like what your favorite movie is?"

Contestant: "No, I think this is really important. So, the Gibeonites pretended to be from a distant land, and they gave Joshua and the Israelites some old and moldy bread as proof. Even though the Israelites knew something was wrong, they still made a treaty with the Gibeonites. When the Israelites later found out the truth, they were angry, but they still honored the treaty they had made."

Alex: [rolling his eyes] "Well, I guess that's one way to spend your time. But if you don't mind me saying, it sounds a bit dull. Is there anything else you'd like to talk about?"

Contestant: "Actually, there is. In Joshua 9, the Gibeonites also asked for protection from the Israelites, and Joshua agreed. This event is an example of how God's people should honor their promises, even if they have been tricked into making them."

Alex: [frustrated] "Well, I can see you're passionate about this, but I just wish you'd talk about something more interesting, like a celebrity or something!"
