Joe: Alright, so we've got our Bible Expert here, and he's going to tell us all about Genesis 15. Go ahead and take it away, Expert!
Expert: Well, Joe, Genesis 15 is all about the Lord's Covenant with Abram. He promises Abram that his descendants will be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and that they will inherit the land of Canaan. He also makes a covenant with him that he will be the father of many nations.
Joe: Whoa! That's a big promise! What was Abram's reaction?
Expert: Well, Abram was skeptical at first, but then he believed in the Lord's promise and he put his faith in Him.
Joe: That's amazing! What else happened in this chapter?
Expert: Well, after the Lord makes His covenant with Abram, He tells him to bring Him some animals for a sacrifice. Abram does as he is told and the Lord passes between the pieces of the animals, which is a sign of the covenant.
Joe: Wow! That's pretty wild. Is that it?
Expert: Not quite. The Lord also tells Abram that his descendants will be enslaved for 400 years, but that He will deliver them from this bondage.
Joe: Four hundred years? That's a long time! How does the chapter end?
Expert: Well, at the end of the chapter, Abram is given a sign of the covenant, which is the smoking furnace and the burning torch that passes between the pieces he has sacrificed. This is a sign of the covenant between the Lord and Abram.
Joe: Wow, that's really cool! Thanks for the explanation, Expert!
