Joe: Alright, so, we're talking about the Bible, and this is chapter 47 of Genesis.

Bible Expert: Yes, so in this chapter Joseph, who is now the Prime Minister of Egypt, is in charge of rationing food during a period of famine.

Joe: Wait, how did Joseph get to be Prime Minister?

Jamie: Hey Joe, let me Google that for you!

Joe: Thanks Jamie!

Bible Expert: So Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers, but eventually he rose to a position of power in Egypt and was able to interpret Pharaoh's dream. The dream predicted seven years of plenty, followed by seven years of famine, so Joseph was appointed to oversee the storing up of food during the seven years of plenty and the rationing of food during the years of famine.

Joe: Wow, that's amazing! So what happened in chapter 47?

Bible Expert: Well, in this chapter the famine reaches Egypt, and Joseph's brothers come down from Canaan to buy food. Joseph recognizes them, but they don't recognize him.

Joe: Wait, so Joseph didn't tell them who he was?

Bible Expert: No, he was testing them to see if they had changed since they had sold him into slavery. Eventually, Joseph reveals his identity to his brothers and brings his family to live in Egypt. He also gives them the best land in Egypt and rations food to them so they don't starve during the famine.

Joe: That's incredible. So what's the lesson here?

Bible Expert: I think the lesson is that even though we make mistakes, God can use our experiences to bring about something good.
