Joe: Alright, so let's get into it! What does Genesis 12 tell us about?

Bible Expert: Genesis 12 is about God's call to Abram, later to be known as Abraham. God calls out to Abram, telling him to leave his homeland and his father's house and go to a land that God will show him.

Joe: Wow, that's pretty crazy! What does God promise Abram?

Bible Expert: God promises that he will make Abram into a great nation, that he will bless him and make his name great, and that through him all the families of the earth will be blessed.

Joe: Whoa, alright. That must have been quite a moment for Abram. So what did Abram do in response?

Bible Expert: Abram obeyed God and left his homeland, taking his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all the possessions he had acquired with him. He traveled to the land of Canaan where he built an altar and worshiped God.

Joe: Interesting. So what happens next?

Bible Expert: After Abram arrived in Canaan, a famine struck the land and Abram had to go to Egypt to find food. While in Egypt, Abram told Sarai to pass herself off as his sister so that Pharaoh wouldn't kill him and take her away as his wife.

Joe: Alright, so then what?

Bible Expert: Well, Pharaoh eventually finds out that Sarai is Abram's wife and sends them away with many gifts. And then God appears to Abram again and reaffirms his promise to make Abram into a great nation.
