Joe: Okay so Genesis 30, what is it all about?

Bible Expert: Genesis 30 is all about Rachel and Leah, two of Jacob's wives. Jacob had promised Rachel that he would give her a child in exchange for her father's Laban's mandrakes, but Rachel's sister Leah had tricked Jacob into sleeping with her. This caused Rachel to be jealous of Leah and she asked Jacob to give her children as well.

Joe: Wait, so she tricked him into sleeping with her?

Bible Expert: That's right. Leah gave Jacob a mandrake cake and he ate it and then slept with her that same night.

Joe: Wow, so what happened next?

Bible Expert: Well, God blessed Leah with four sons and Rachel with two sons. Rachel then gave birth to a third son, whom she named Joseph. Joseph would eventually become a great leader in the tribe of Israel.

Joe: Wow, that's amazing. So what did Jacob do with the two sisters?

Bible Expert: Well, he made a deal with both of them that whichever one gave him more children, would have the greater inheritance. So Leah kept having more children and in the end she had six, while Rachel only had three. So Leah was ultimately the one who got the bigger inheritance.
