Joe: Alright, so what’s going on in chapter 13 of the Bible?

Bible Expert: Well Joe, in this chapter, Abram and Lot have grown so wealthy that they can no longer stay together. So they separate, and Lot chooses the Jordan Valley.

Joe: Whoa, whoa, hold on a sec. How do we know they were so wealthy?

Jamie: I’m Googling it now, Joe…

Bible Expert: We know they were wealthy because the Bible says they had so many flocks of livestock, their land couldn’t support them both.

Joe: Wow, that’s crazy. So what happens next?

Bible Expert: Well, the Lord appears to Abram and tells him to look around and take whatever land he wants. So Abram gives Lot first pick and Lot takes the Jordan Valley. Abram then takes the land around Bethel and Ai.

Joe: So what’s the significance of this?

Bible Expert: Well, this is really significant because it’s the first time God makes a covenant with Abram and tells him that his descendants will be blessed. It’s also a sign of God’s faithfulness, as he promised to make Abram into a great nation and give him a land.
