Joe: Alright, we're back and we've got a Bible expert here with us to talk about the book of Acts. Let's dive right in, what's in chapter 6?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, chapter 6 is all about the apostles appointing seven deacons to help them with the growing responsibilities of the early church.

Joe: Wow, so they just like decided to appoint seven people to help them?

Bible Expert: That's right. The early church was growing quickly and the apostles needed help managing all the details, so they chose seven men of good reputation and put them in charge of distributing food and taking care of the widows in the church.

Joe: That's really cool. What happened then?

Bible Expert: Well, as you can imagine, the seven men were very successful and the church continued to grow. The apostles were able to focus more on their ministry, preaching and teaching the Word of God.

Joe: That's amazing. So, what else happened in this chapter?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, there is one other important event in Chapter 6. The church faced its first major controversy when some of the Hellenistic Jewish widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.

Joe: So, the seven deacons didn't do their job?

Bible Expert: No, they did their job. But the Hellenistic Jewish widows weren't as well-known or respected, so they were being overlooked. The apostles recognized the problem and appointed seven more men, who were Hellenistic Jews, to take care of them.

Joe: Wow, that's really interesting. So, the church faced its first major controversy and the apostles handled it?

Bible Expert: That's right. They showed great wisdom and fairness in how they handled the situation, and it set a great example for the early church.
