Joe: Alright, so in Exodus 18... What's going on here?

Bible Expert: Well, Moses' father-in-law, Jethro, visits Moses in the desert, and Moses tells him all that God has done for the people of Israel. Jethro is so impressed that he gives Moses advice about how to lead the people. He tells Moses to appoint leaders to help him, so that he can focus on his leadership role.

Joe: That makes sense.

Jamie (Joe's Sidekick): Hey Joe, I just Googled it and it turns out that Jethro was a priest in Midian, so he would have had a lot of experience leading and organizing people.

Joe: Wow, that's really cool. So, what happens next?

Bible Expert: Well, Moses takes Jethro's advice and appoints leaders over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. Each leader was responsible for judging the people's disputes, and Moses would only judge the more difficult cases.

Joe: That's pretty smart. I mean, it seems like a lot of work for Moses, but it also seems like it would be a lot easier for the people to get their disputes resolved.

Bible Expert: Exactly. And then, to top it all off, Jethro celebrates with a sacrifice to God.

Joe: Wow! That's really cool. So, it seems like Jethro really believed in what God was doing with the people of Israel.

Bible Expert: Yes, absolutely. He was very supportive of Moses and what he was trying to do.
