Joe: Well, we’ve been talking about Exodus for a while now, what’s going on in chapter 9?

Bible Expert: Well Joe, in this chapter, God is continuing to demonstrate his power through plagues. This time he sends down a plague of hail and fire, mixed with thunder and lightning.

Joe: Wow, Jamie, did you Google that?

Jamie: Yeah, it sounds like a pretty intense storm!

Bible Expert: Yes, it was. The hail and fire were so destructive that no plant life was left in the Pharaoh’s fields. But, Pharaoh still refused to let the Israelites go, so God then sent a plague of locusts to devour the remaining crops.

Joe: Man, that Pharaoh had to be pretty hard-headed.

Bible Expert: He was, but God was also making it known that His power was greater than Pharaoh’s. He then sent a plague of darkness over the land of Egypt, so great that it could be felt.

Joe: Whoa, that’s intense. So, what happened when the plagues were over?

Bible Expert: Well Joe, Pharaoh finally relented and allowed the Israelites to go. However, as soon as they were gone, he changed his mind and sent his army to bring them back. But, God had other plans. He parted the Red Sea and the Israelites were able to escape.
