Joe: Alright, welcome to the show Bible Expert! We're talking about 2 Kings 14 today. So what's going on in this chapter?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, this chapter is about the reign of King Amaziah of Judah. He was successful in defeating the Edomites and decided to sacrifice the gods of the Edomites. He also began to worship those gods, which God did not approve of. He then took the advice of his advisors and decided to hire an army from Israel to help him fight against the Ammonites.

Joe: Wow, that's a lot of information to take in. What happened next?

Bible Expert: Well, despite the warnings of a prophet, Amaziah continued to hire the soldiers from Israel. God sent a prophet to him to tell him that the soldiers would turn against him. Sure enough, the soldiers did turn against him and he was defeated.

Joe: So he was defeated by his own army? That's crazy!

Bible Expert: Yes, it is. After this, Amaziah was assassinated by his own people and his son, Uzziah, took the throne. Uzziah was a righteous king and reigned for fifty two years. He was successful in defeating the Philistines and was able to restore many of the cities of Judah.

Joe: Wow! That sounds like a great reign. What happened after Uzziah's death?

Bible Expert: After Uzziah's death, his son Jotham became king. He was also a righteous king and was successful in defeating the Ammonites. He also restored the altar of the Lord and reigned for sixteen years. After Jotham, his son Ahaz became king. He was not a righteous king, and he led Judah into idolatry and sin.
