Joe: Alright, we're talking about 2 Kings 15. So what's going on here?
Bible Expert: Well, this chapter takes us back to the northern kingdom, Israel. We see the death of King Azariah and his son Jotham taking the throne. Jotham is a good king, following the Lord and doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord.
Joe: What about Jeroboam? Wasn't he the king of Israel?
Bible Expert: Yes, Jeroboam had been the king of Israel for 22 years, but he had turned away from the Lord and did evil. So, the Lord caused him to be defeated by King Baasha of Judah and he was killed.
Joe: So, what happened after that?
Bible Expert: Well, after Jeroboam's death, Baasha became king of Israel. He too was evil and did not follow the Lord. He even destroyed the temple in Bethel, which is where Jeroboam had set up idols. So, the Lord was angry with Baasha and his line and caused them to be destroyed.
Joe: Wow, that's pretty intense. What happened after that?
Bible Expert: Well, after Baasha's death, his son Elah became king. He only reigned for two years before he was assassinated by his servant Zimri. After Elah's death, Zimri took the throne. But, he only reigned for seven days before the people of Israel chose Omri to be their king.
Joe: That's a lot of changes in a short amount of time. What happened when Omri took the throne?
Bible Expert: Well, Omri was a good king and he followed the Lord and did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He also built the city of Samaria and made it the capital of Israel. He also expanded the borders of Israel and made it a great kingdom. His son Ahab took the throne after him and continued to do what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
