Joe: Alright, so we have here with us a Bible Expert to tell us all about the book of 2 Samuel! Tell us what it's all about.

Bible Expert: Sure. 2 Samuel is the second book of the books of Samuel in the Hebrew Bible, or what Christians call the Old Testament. It tells the story of King David and his rise to becoming the King of all Israel.

Joe: Wow, that sounds pretty intense. So what's going on in Chapter 5?

Bible Expert: Chapter 5 is about the people of Israel gathering at Hebron and making David their king. The sons of Jesse, David's father, were also present, and they anointed him as king over Israel.

Joe: That's awesome! So then what happened?

Bible Expert: Well, after David was anointed king, the Philistines heard about it and they attacked the city of Jerusalem. But David was able to defeat them and take control of the city.

Joe: That's incredible! So David was now the King of Israel?

Bible Expert: Yes, that's right. He was now the King of Israel, and he reigned for seven years in Hebron and then for 33 years in Jerusalem. He also established an alliance with the King of Tyre and made Jerusalem his capital.

Joe: Wow! That's an amazing story. So what else happened in Chapter 5?

Bible Expert: Well, David also took many wives and concubines, and he had many sons and daughters. And then he conquered the Jebusites and renamed the city of Jerusalem as the City of David.

Joe: That's a lot of action! So what else did David do?

Bible Expert: He also built fortresses and towers around Jerusalem to protect it. He also assembled a large army and conquered many of the surrounding nations. Finally, he established a covenant with the Lord and made sacrifices to him.
