Joe: Alright, so let's get into it! What's going on in chapter 21 of 2 Samuel?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, this chapter focuses on a famine that was happening in the land of Israel. The famine was lasting for three years and the people believed it was because of Saul and his family's blood guilt. Saul had broken a covenant with the Gibeonites and so God was punishing the people for this.

Joe: Wow, that's intense! What did they do to make up for it?

Bible Expert: In order to make up for Saul's actions, the people had to give up seven of Saul's descendants to the Gibeonites. They chose Saul's sons, Armoni, and Mephibosheth. The Gibeonites then executed them in order to appease God.

Joe: That's crazy! So, what happened after that?

Bible Expert: Well, after the Gibeonites had taken the seven men, they were still not satisfied. They then demanded that David give them seven more men, in order to completely atone for Saul's sin. So, David gave them seven more men, including two of Saul's sons, Ishbosheth and Rizpah.

Joe: That's nuts! So, did the famine end after that?

Bible Expert: Yes, it did. After the seven men were executed, the famine ended and peace returned to the land.
