Joe: Alright, so what do we have here? 2 Samuel 2.

Bible Expert: Well, this chapter is about the battle between the followers of the late King Saul and the followers of King David. Saul's son, Ishbosheth, is the leader of the former and Abner is his commander. David, on the other hand, is the leader of the latter.

Joe: Wow, so this is a huge battle then?

Bible Expert: Yes, it's a big one! Abner and his men come out to fight against David and his men, but the battle is drawn and no one wins.

Joe: Wow, so no one wins?

Bible Expert: No, they decide to end the battle and make a pact of peace. Then Abner goes to Ishbosheth and tells him that he should make a covenant with David and make him king over all of Israel. Ishbosheth agrees and sends messengers to David to make a covenant.

Joe: So they all make peace?

Bible Expert: Yes, David accepts the covenant and makes a covenant with Ishbosheth. But then Abner decides to defect from Ishbosheth and joins David. Ishbosheth gets angry and sends men to capture Abner, but Abner escapes and joins David.

Joe: What happens then?

Bible Expert: Well, Ishbosheth gets even angrier and sends Joab, David's commander, to kill Abner. Joab kills Abner and then David mourns for Abner and makes a speech saying that the death of Abner will be avenged. So, essentially, this chapter is about the battle between David and Ishbosheth and how they eventually make peace and Abner defects from Ishbosheth to join David.
